00:45:28raptorgood evening
00:46:00raptori'm only on shortly - I have some really early classes so I'll probably not be on too late this semester
00:53:07raptorprobably in bed by 10pm Mountain time
00:53:14raptoreven though I'm breaking that now...
00:53:20raptorgood night!

13:03:18raptorgood day
13:32:46watusimotohey there
13:32:55watusimotogood first day?
13:32:57raptorhi
13:33:07raptorlooks like i'll be becoming a 'sparky'
13:33:13watusimoto??
13:33:18watusimotoarsonist?
13:33:21raptorsoldering class on thursday
13:33:35raptorit's the endearing term for electrical engineers
13:33:50watusimotoah, I see... that kind of "sparky"
13:33:52raptorat least as used here...
13:34:03watusimotoI thought maybe you were becoming a firehouse dog
13:34:07raptorhahaha
13:34:08watusimotoa dalmation or something
13:34:17raptori think those have been overbred
13:34:25watusimotocompletely
13:34:31watusimotoall 101 of them
13:35:56raptori have yet to really start the work load, and the professor just found out that the book center never stocked or told anyone in our Circuits class that there was a book
13:36:10raptorand the class is double-pace, being in the Spring
13:36:13watusimotoha... totally typical
13:36:33watusimotospring semester is shorter than fall?
13:36:46raptorthey fit in 2 double-pace semesters here: Spring and Summer
13:36:48watusimotooh wait... it's may already
13:36:57raptorso i'm taking 7 credits, double-pace
13:37:02raptorthen another 6 in Summer
13:37:05watusimotofull load
13:37:12raptoryep
13:37:32watusimotoengineers had to take 17-18 credits each sememster when I was in school
13:37:36watusimotoeveryone else took 12\
13:37:49watusimotoso I feel your pain
13:37:57raptorwell...
13:38:01raptorthe way they do it here
13:38:19raptoris they call it a 4 credit class (3 class hours + 1 lab hour)
13:38:30watusimotoyes
13:38:36watusimotothat's what we did too
13:38:43raptorwhen it really is a 3 hour lab with 1-3 hours after-lab work
13:39:06watusimotofor me the killer was the 100 hours of homework
13:39:15raptorso you're typical sparky does 13-16 credit hours with a load of 18 or more work
13:39:18raptor*your
13:39:26raptorcomputer engineering is the same
13:39:56watusimotowell, hopefully you have enough "life perspective" to enjoy it a little more than I did
13:40:02watusimotoI think going back I'd get more out of it
13:40:07raptorha - that's for sure
13:40:36raptorthat EM physics class, while very difficult, was a real eye-opener taking it at 31 then remembering the stuff when i was 18
13:40:44raptor*than
13:41:11raptorsorry, i can't form complete, grammatically correct sentences at the moment
13:47:53watusimotoI understand
13:48:01watusimotothat stuff will dazzle your mind
13:48:13watusimotokind of like a bright strobe in the middle of then ight
14:02:57Flynnn Quit (Quit: This computer has gone to sleep)
14:05:19Flynnn has joined
14:05:29raptori don't think i quite remember what I worked on last with bitfighter
14:05:53raptorI did a large GL refactor, and it looks like you've merged OK with that
14:06:18raptori've checked up on debian - they are so slow, or just completely disinterested
14:07:47watusimotoor both
14:07:59watusimotomy short-term project is to try to get an android build going
14:08:07watusimotodon't know how far I'll get with that
14:08:13raptoroh, i found a doc with a few bugs left for 019: http://pastie.org/10120776
14:08:23watusimotothen I'll probably start attacking the google-code list
14:08:32watusimotothere's some moderately fun sounding stuff in there
14:08:34raptoroh yeah - if you're doing android, take a good look at the SDL doc for setting it up
14:08:45raptorit basically has the instructions on how to use the NDK with it
14:09:02raptoralso, make sure your android platform supports GLES 1
14:09:27raptori think most androids do, but i've heard talk about dropping support. not sure, though
14:09:28watusimotoI think it does
14:09:43watusimoto(support gles1)
14:11:57Flynnn Quit (Quit: This computer has gone to sleep)
14:12:39watusimotook, all those pastie issues are now in the bug tracker
14:13:02watusimotoyou can remove that doucment from your mindspace
14:15:39raptorthanks!
14:17:56raptorman, i got me a good mechanic
14:19:28raptorthey had to replace an old part of the car's sway-bars. and when I drove it home, it had this popping noise. Apparently a bolt on the sway-bars snapped because being old and being aggravated during the repair
14:20:12watusimotowow
14:20:27raptorthey replaced the bolt and didn't charge for re-lifting the car and for taking it apart again - final cost was $10.50
14:20:33watusimotobolt;s don't really wear out...
14:21:02raptorso my statement above wasn't meant to be sarcastic - because they owned up to a probable mistake
14:21:14watusimotoyou did escape with a low bill
14:21:21watusimotoI'll grant you that
14:21:48watusimotoit's been a long time since I've had a car in the shop
14:22:06watusimotolast time was my german car that was leaking oil all over the place; needed a new head gasket
14:22:08raptorhow come? do-it-yourself? Or just good cars?
14:22:13watusimotogood cars
14:22:25raptoroh man, i had the head gasket replaced last year
14:22:27watusimotoI used to do a lot myself, but I've retired from that
14:22:55watusimotoI won't even change my own oil, when I can get someone else to do it for $25
14:23:41watusimotoit's not the work so much (in that case) as the mess
14:24:20raptoryeah, i agree
14:27:28watusimotoeven changing my bike tire... I hire that out now too (though I have a good shop 1 block from my house, so the convenience factor is high... would do it myself if the shop were a mile away)
14:27:59raptorI still do my own bike repairs - the kids like to watch and it let's me be creative sometimes :)
14:28:09watusimotoyes
14:33:46raptorhmmm... looks like the finall released the next major version of the forum software
14:33:53raptor*they finally
14:37:12watusimotophpbb?
14:37:19raptoryes
14:37:58Flynnn has joined
14:40:43watusimotothat will make everything better
14:40:54watusimotowe should probably upgrade at some point, if only for the security
14:41:10raptoryeah - i've been deleting about 2-3 bots a week again
14:41:28watusimotomaybe we need to finally implement the play-to-register test
14:41:29raptorthey've gotten a lot smarter and either prescan or contain a copy of our database somehow
14:41:43watusimotowhat do you mean?
14:41:47raptorbecause they post previous people's posts in an attempt to look authentic
14:41:54watusimotoah, I see
14:41:59watusimotowell scraping that stuff is trivial
14:42:32watusimotoI do need a new kitchen... I wonder where I could get a good lead on that...
14:42:44watusimotolet me know if you hear of anything!
14:42:55raptorhH
14:42:57raptorhaha
14:43:02raptorit's so bizarre

14:57:54raptorfor eclipse: use a completely different eclipse install. I think there is a bundled eclipse+android SDK download somewhere
14:58:16raptori just downloaded it, put it into local folder somewhere and run it
14:59:17LordDVG Quit (Remote host closed the connection)
14:59:22raptoralso, for the JNI stuff - I had already done most of the work and it is found under the 'build/android/SDL-android-project'
14:59:29raptortha tis in our repo
14:59:41raptorin fact, that should be able to import directly into the SDK
14:59:49raptoras an eclipse project
15:13:56raptoroooo - there is a mars rover collaboration project here that could be used as a tech elective...

20:36:22raptorhi sam686!
20:36:32sam686hi
20:38:00raptorwelcome back
20:38:19raptorI took about a 3 week break myself - now i'm a full-time student again!
20:38:19sam686what has changed since about.. a few month?
20:38:28raptorlet's see -
20:38:56raptori've been trying to maintain our 019x branch.. slowly. I'm thinking of an 019e as soon as I fix 2 or 3 bugs
20:39:11raptor020 is so far different than 019 now that it's getting hard to merge in changes
20:39:33raptormajor changes in 020 - I abstraacted all the OpenGL calls in preparation for GLES 2 compatibility
20:40:02raptoralso, I think watusimoto changed the editor saving system from a state-saving system to a determinate system
20:40:17raptorso I presume there are lots of bugs everywhere, but I haven't really checked that much
20:40:44raptoralso bots on the forums are getting smarter
20:44:42sam686i don't think we can do much about 019, not sure until i check it,,
20:44:46amgine123what bots on the forum XD
20:45:06raptoryeah - you don't have to do much - there is very little left
20:45:15raptori'm fine with being the only one on it right now
20:45:32raptoroh, also, i submitted the game to debian... and waiting patiently for them to do something about it
20:46:21sam686there is only about 126 changes since Feb 16
20:46:42raptorhah, yeah - i think watusimoto may have taken a break in there, too...
20:50:30sam686I have played too much PS3 games for a past few months
20:52:12raptorthat can be a time-waster
20:57:37sam686took about 90 seconds to build everything in windows 7, i7-2600, visual c++ 2008
20:57:53sam686comple errors, all in "bitfighterd" (dedicated) build.
20:58:34raptori'm sure bitfighterd is horribly broken since i refactored all the UI code
20:58:42sam686is google code will soon shut down?
20:59:14raptoryes
20:59:28raptorwatusimoto and I have more-or-less decided to move to github, but i don't like git
20:59:47amgine123raptor can i ask somthing bitfighter advsrtising related
21:00:01raptorI'll probably do the work, but secretly hoping github will add mercurial support sometime soon (which will, of course, never happen)
21:00:23raptorso i'm sort of being dragged into it
21:00:23amgine123does bitfighter have a offcial "facebook" "twitter" page I thought that might help with mroe people playing and keep up to date with bitfighter activities
21:00:40raptoramgine123: there are some, but we don't run them
21:01:04raptoroh yeah, look on the bitfighter homepage for the links
21:01:12raptorwe added the links because past community members asked us to
21:01:14amgine123who does I THInk you should due to the fact it should be the main developers posting
21:01:31sam686there is some options available: 1. github, 2. host own hg project
21:01:46raptori agree, but honestly, we'd need a main developer who cares enough :)
21:01:47sam686been a long time but i sort of setup my own http://sam6.25u.com/hg
21:01:54sam686its outdated though
21:02:09raptoryeah, i've been thinking about that, too - SDL does own hosting
21:02:42raptorgithub is good, git is not so good, but we can use hg-git :)
21:02:46sam686what about bug reports when google code shuts down?
21:02:59amgine123hmm Im trying to think of other sites to advertise bitfighter that is popular maybe Reedit?
21:04:13amgine123im not familer myseld i dont use it but is instagram a option as well ?
21:06:06amgine123so any word on when 19E and 20 are goign to be released ?
21:07:24sam686maybe bitfighter could use better graphics...
21:07:59sam686there is a nintendo 64 game called "Asteroids Hyper 64" even it looks really good while keeping the game kindof basic.
21:08:04amgine123I Think obect edges should have a "neon" glow :)
21:08:33amgine123making objects glow would be cool
21:08:45amgine123ARG compiler errors
21:17:07raptorsam686: the idea is to use some of kaen's shader-based work and port everything to GLES 2, then we can allow better effects graphics as well as turning them off/on
21:19:30Watusimoto_ Quit (Ping timeout: 256 seconds)

22:12:52raptorI expect it'll break at next kernel update :-/
22:12:53Nothing_MuchDid you use Primus or Bumblebee?
22:14:05raptoryup
22:14:40raptorbumblebee is required, and primus is another way to launch it which allows slightly faster graphics
22:14:50raptorso both are installed and work
22:14:51Nothing_Muchman
22:15:28raptorthe normal intel graphics are just fine for almost everything, but OpenGL apps do much better with primusrun or optirun
