Big Bitfighter Battle VII - PRIZES!

Here Comes Thunder...
...and Here Comes Big Bitfighter Battle VII!

Join the special Bitfighter Bash Server Friday night, November 4th from 8:00 pm - Midnight Eastern time for the seventh and greatest Big Bitfighter Battle, a prime opportunity for Mirth, Madness, and Mayhem! Big Bitfighter Battles only come around every other month, so be there or be square! The single player with the most team wins over the four-hour session will get to choose a prize from the following:

(1) Yapster TM-YP100A Universal Gaming Headset
(1) Logitech Dual Action Game Pad USB
(1) GIGABYTE GM-M6880 Metal Black USB Wired Laser 1600 dpi Gaming Mouse
(1) i-Rocks KR-6820E-WH White 104 Key USB Wired Backlit Gaming Keyboard
(3) Months Custom VPS Hosting

Team wins will be determined by the final scoreboard that appears at the end of each game. Any player who changes teams will be disqualified for that game, unless his or her team is changed by an administrator. Free-for-all game types will only have one winner per game.

Levels will be drawn from past level design contests, kServ, and the stock level set. If you would like to suggest an old level or submit a new one, send me a PM.

I might actually be able to make this. I work Friday nights until 8 but I'm Pacific Standard time. So your 8 is my 9, right?

Oh… your 8 is my 5… then I might not be able to make it. Or at least I'll come really late. How long does it go for?

Also, I made a small giveaway over on Playdate. Hopefully that'll increase participation tonight!

One more thing: Might we have ten minute breaks? My memory sucks, I can't remember if we've been doing that or five minute breaks. The problem with five minute breaks -- it takes me five minutes to figure out what to eat, and then I'm doomed! :(

Generally, it depends on when the map before the break ends...it's nice to restart on the hour marks so everyone has a clear idea of when to be back.

I'm off to bed, but really impressed with the turnout tonight... even after I quit, I never once saw the player count drop below 20. And I've never seen it rise above 20 before tonight.

So good job everyone! It was a blast! Good night!

That was awesome. Even though I was only able to play for 2 & 1/2 hours. The reddit turnout was MUCH better than the previous attempt.

Re: Big Bitfighter Battle VII - PRIZES!

That was fantastic! THIS was how Bitfighter is meant to be played.

Many thanks to /r/Playdate for making this event extra awesome. As always, I'd like to thank _k for organizing and sam686 for recording.

If my timing is right, the next BBB won't be until 2012, but maybe we can put together something awesome during the holidays...

Some observations from the event:

- A /nextmap feature to determine what the next map will be would be quite helpful.
- /maplist to view the maps on the server would be nice. Make it a toggle if the server owner wants privacy.
- A spectator team ought to be created, not for the purpose of spectating, but for the purpose of containing Opti and Lone_Wolf. ;)
- Currently, Bitfighter prevents players from switching teams multiple times... instead, I think Bitfighter should prevent any player from purposely stacking the teams. Ex. If it's 8v7, no player on the team with 7 should be allowed to switch over to the team with 8. This would also need a toggle however, otherwise it would break dungeons.
- Finally, development-wise, how difficult would it be to implement a dedicated voice chat for Bitfighter? The current system would probably need an overhaul.

Thanks to all for playing! See you next time. :)

Re: Big Bitfighter Battle VII - PRIZES!

Whoever was asking if this BBB was the most active:

Max. Players per BBB

BBB 1: 14 Players
BBB 2: 15 Players
BBB 3: 20 Players
BBB 4: 14 Players
BBB 5: 16 Players
BBB 6: 17 Players

I counted at least 23 players at one time... so yes, this BBB was the most active! :D

PS. Skybax, your map was fun, although a few people decided to teleport outside of the map. :/

however, remember in the BBB 3 theres the possibility that there were a wider range of players who showed up, but didn't play as much.

Ah, good point. So maybe "most active" isn't the right term; "most popular" would be a better and more accurate choice.

edit: well, I haven't counted the player list in the other threads, but I don't think we've ever had 57 unique players in a BBB to date!

By the way -- the original winner of the Playdate giveaway, ToreSimonsen, is an indie developer and kindly decided to pass on his prize to the second place player. He asked me to link to his game, so here it is!

I won't speak for _k, but in the past the day has fluctuated. So it'll probably (again, I'm not _k) be in January but may not be on the 5th.
