BitfighterVideo on YouTube

I've created a channel on YouTube for the video capture I'll be doing from now on. I've got the first hour of the BBB uploaded. I used a junky codec for this first section, so the video quality is lower than it will be for the next five hours. (Still looks decent if you max out the resolution to 480p in youtube.) What I've done (and will do for the rest), is break the footage up by game. There's also a fun little lobby clip in there. Go wild!

If it wouldn't be too much trouble, please list the players in each game.

Re: BitfighterVideo on YouTube

The scoreboard appears in every video, so players get credit there. Otherwise, that's a lot of extra work to do to get these online. If anyone would like a pretty 800x600 copy of a particular game, I'll upload to a filesharing site. Second hour of BBB play is nearly up.

Re: BitfighterVideo on YouTube

Hours 1-4 are now up. I cut the Tangle Box video because I was doing a bunch of other stuff during that game. It's lame watching one stationary ship for extended periods of time, and occasionally the edges of other windows popped up in the capture area. I also cut some little bits out of an otherwise worthwhile Curly-Q video because of unrelated windows. That's what I get for multitasking!

Thanks to sam686 and dumb luck, we had two different people on two different teams accidentally capture video of the same game! As a result, I've made the coolest bitfighter video ever. Both videos, synced, side by side. Funny how the lag changes perception from time to time... Watch it in 720p!

Re: BitfighterVideo on YouTube

BitfighterVideo has been up for three weeks now. We've had over 550 video views. The forums have also picked up 6 new members since the launch. I'd be curious to see if there's been any noticeable traffic to bitfighter.org from youtube. A significant number of our plays have come from the embedded player on the main page.

I'll take a look at that when I get a chance. In the meantime, I've noted a lot more game activity since the big battle contest. Whether that is youtube or something else I don't know.

Re: BitfighterVideo on YouTube

All videos include a bunch of great statistics on their YouTube page. Click on the little arrow next to the view count. For example, Blocks SidebySide shows that 27 views came from bitfighter.org. It may not be exactly what you're looking for, and you can only do it by one video at a time, but it's still pretty cool.

Re: BitfighterVideo on YouTube

I'm happy to release the "Official" BitfighterVideo Season 1 Soundtrack. Included are the 16 audio files used as backing tracks to the first year of BitfighterVideo's gameplay clips. Note that all files are used under a Creative Commons License, and that the format is .ogg - compatible with Bitfighter 016's built-in audio support! If you have trouble playing .ogg files normally, I suggest downloading VLC Player.

(I also suggest headphones, for maximum awesome!)

The songs? No no no. They're all from 8bitcollective. However, they're all available under Creative Commons License for use and distribution, so long as you don't charge any money and give credit where credit is due.

On track 3, currently.

Man, I'm as much for retro as the next guy... but did you have to go clear back to atari-pacman days?

However, these are rather good. They fit with the game fairly close. They all have the right feel, even if I don't think the beeps sound quite right with the game. You could have done much worse. Good job.

thats about 114 views on each video. Remember, we have a big community, even if they aren't very very active. Way over 100 for sure. This seems likely, when you put it in smaller numbers.

Re: BitfighterVideo on YouTube

ZoombeR wrote:56 videos? Are they all from the BBB, just seperated into hours?

I uploaded every game from the first BBB individually because there weren't really any bitfighter videos on youtube at the time. Once those were up and sam started uploading all his stuff, I took a different approach with the channel.

Most games aren't worth watching. Instead of uploading everything, so that the one or two really fun-to-watch matches would get buried under hours of dull video, I decided to upload only those one or two videos. I also started to add soundtracks and side by side gameplay videos where the second perspective added something significant to the experience. My goal with the channel is to present a variety of really great games that are exciting to watch and show off the best of what bitfighter has to offer.

Traffic has come from bitfighter.org and these forums, but some of the videos have been linked or reposted in forums around the internet. Youtube has an Insight function that let's you see where the views originated. There has also been a fair amount of traffic derived from searches for the chiptunes or musicians I've used for audio.

As an interesting side note, the google code page indicates that version 015a has received over 3,000 downloads. Where are all those players? I don't know, but I'm positive we forum users didn't rack that number up on our own.

I think this may be the result of users, including myself, downloading that copy more than once.
