Contest ideas

Contest ideas

I am thinking that there should be a contest about mapmaking, not just off a theme (e.g. most random level contest, biggest level contest, etc).

Also, 4th of July should be the theme of the contest next to 4th of July.

Stupid ideas (correct me if i'm wrong):
Randomest level contest
Smallest level contest
Biggest level contest

Not bad ideas:
Most Detailed level contest
Best levelgened level contest
Simplest but most fun level contest

Perhaps. But the idea of "Big Levels" is certainly an excellent one. "Small Levels" could be great too.

I like all of these. I would undoubtedly do horrible at levelgen contest but that's fine, there would be a lot of cool levels from other people.
Also obviously it'd just be "Simple Level Contest." Lol "Simplest but most fun" sounds very ... unsmooth.

Re: Contest ideas

I actually like the simplest idea and smallest idea. For the latter, perhaps you could restrict map sizes to a certain amount of gridsquares (that idea actually sounds really familiar, anyone else remember it?). It would be harder to regulate "simple" but that could be cool as well.

Take the initiative and post a level contest thread!

The smallest level contest would fail miserably :P

Someone would just make a level, and then resize it to make it tiny that you don't even fit your ship in.

The biggest level contest might fail too, someone would just resize their level to 999999999

Nobody would vote for that, so that would be their loss.

Re: Contest ideas

Lamp, I don't think I understood your idea properly then. I wasn't suggesting that people battle to see who can create the physically smallest level ever. That wouldn't even be a level contest, it'd be a feat of level making technique. No, what I was suggesting was that people are given a certain gridsize, then try to make a decent level within those parameters. For example, maybe 6x6 (big squares). That could get you enough room for a good Nexus or Bitmatch, although I'd be interested to see if someone could make a good team map, like Core.

In other words, not "Smallest Level," but "Small Levels." Yes

What are you implying, Little Apple? That contest was a year and a half ago, I'm sure if people want to repeat it we can without worry.

To be fair, in this case I apparently necro'd it in 2019.

Re: Contest ideas

Contributing to the necroing here, but one contest i'd love to see is asymmertrical gameplay, just like bob's map where one team attacks and the other defends, would be cool to see asymetrical nexus, rabbit, etc...

I would be down for a assymetrical map contest. it would be interesting to see if they could make the maps balanced.
