15:05:38watusimoto1howdy
15:05:43raptorhello
15:05:44watusimoto1 is now known as watusimoto
15:05:49watusimotoHow's school?
15:05:59raptortoo much trig + integrals
15:06:00watusimotonow matrix-math free?
15:06:14watusimotointegrals are fun!
15:06:17raptormy diff eq. class is more about 'intuition'
15:06:40watusimotothe mecahnics of integral computation have been utterly suplanted by wolfram alpha
15:06:51raptordid you have to take a class like 'differential equations' for your degree?
15:07:02watusimotothe intution is probably quite valuable, much more than the actual computations
15:07:09raptor(undergrad... civic engineering?)
15:07:09watusimotoyes, of course
15:07:24raptorok, that makes sense
15:07:40watusimotothe first two years of my degree were general to most engineering programs
15:08:06watusimotoI even did some dynamics, which, in civil engineering, usually only happens when your structure is collapsing
15:08:12watusimotootherwise, things are supposed to be static
15:08:59watusimotobut even in environmental engineering, things like mixing involve calculus
15:09:43watusimotoalthough we'd do the calculus, then learn the rule of thumb/approximation that let you ignore the real calculation
15:09:53raptorha
15:10:33raptori'm learning how to compute 'curvature' in my Calc 3 class; however, the teacher is a pure-math grad student and couldn't really tell me how curvature would be useful in the real world
15:10:49watusimotowell...
15:10:57watusimotoresistors are curved, as are capactitors
15:11:09raptorhaha
15:11:17watusimotoma
15:11:23watusimotomaybe he doesn't know about those
15:11:31watusimotobeing a math guy and all
15:12:16raptorcurvature being the change in a tangent vector divided by the change in arc-length
15:12:32raptorhe was wearing round glasses...
15:12:47watusimotoall when the legnths approach 0 ?
15:12:59watusimotoyes... glasses.
15:13:03watusimotothat's probably it
15:13:35raptordT/ds where s = arc-length
15:13:56raptormeasurement of how curvy something is... apparently
15:14:08raptorat any point on the curve
15:14:39watusimotoyou probably multiply that by i and it becomes the resisitivity as voltage oscillates
15:15:05watusimotoor, more likely, completely useless
15:15:33raptoryeah, well, i was sincerely curious and was meet with a less-than-satifactory answer
15:22:13sam686http://bitfighter.org/irclogs/index.php?date=2015-06-28 there may be a new bug, mostly for first time bitfighter run (or no bitfighter.ini) and quick chat fails.
15:26:23raptordoes that only happen if using quick-chat on first run?
15:26:29sam686yes
15:26:39raptori mean, quick chat works if you exit and re-enter, correct?
15:26:45sam686yes,
15:26:59raptorhmmm... that stinks
15:27:03watusimotohi sam686... probably quick chat needs to eb processed later in the initialization?
15:27:42sam686i think it tries to read empty quick chat, then makes a full, default bitfighter.ini
15:28:28sam686only happens if there is no bitfighter.ini, which is missing for first run bitfighter
15:29:27watusimotohttps://code.google.com/p/bitfighter/issues/detail?id=516
15:29:50watusimotoshould be easy to fix, also is unlikely to affect many people
15:33:51raptori vaguely remember we were once in the middle of a Settings refactor
15:36:19watusimotowe are/were, but this shouldn't be affected one way or the other
15:36:34watusimotoit's probably an order-of-initialization type thing
15:36:52watusimotoI'll bet the same probelm affected 018
15:37:39raptorthat seems so long ago...
15:41:08watusimotoit was :-)
15:46:43raptori made a change to the SoundSystem over the weekend that maybe you saw - if a file fails to play, just move on to the next song. before, if a file failed, then it would just kill the music from then onward
15:48:34raptori ohpe that was ok - the issue may pop up more frequently if we allow people to drop in mp3s (with the DLL in the right place)
15:49:21raptorI have also precompiled libmpg123 as drop in libraries for win32, win64, and OSX (ppc, i386, x86_64) when the time comes :)
15:56:42sam686212 errors http://sam6.25u.com/upload/text1506/150629_14-55-27.txt
15:56:55sam686codec_mpg123.cpp error, is typeof missing?
15:57:12raptorclean!
15:57:25raptori tested everything with vc++ 2010 on windows xp
15:57:47sam686doesn't work, and thats on visual C++ 2008
15:57:49raptori'd probably remove the CMake generated files, and re-run CMake
15:58:12raptorif you look at mpg123.h in alure/ directory, there is a section with some added definitions for windows
15:58:28raptormaybe it isn't including them for 2008...
15:59:08sam686which line or which define might be the problem?
15:59:13sam686i see no typeof there
15:59:26raptorthe stuff under line 21
15:59:54sam686theres line 21 and line 29 being included
16:01:14raptoroh wait... is the typeof() modifier completely missing in the c++ version in 2008???
16:01:29sam686easy way to test that?
16:01:55raptornot sure...
16:03:22raptormaybe a #define typeof(x) is needed for older visual studio
16:04:46sam686is this how it suppose to work? http://sam6.25u.com/upload/text1506/150629_15-04-31.txt
16:04:54sam686of course it fails on visual c++ 2008
16:05:29raptorworks in linux
16:06:31raptorthere's a huge boost header for BOOST_TYPEOF
16:06:37raptorwe don't use it though
16:07:20raptormaybe decltype(x) for windows?
16:08:23raptormaybe typeid()?
16:08:39raptorargh, i have to do homework... i'll be back a bit later
16:08:45raptor Quit ()
